"Fair Trade" is a phrase used to describe items that are crafted for the global market and produced by craftspeople who are paid a fair wage. Fair Trade items are usually made by a self-governed collective of artisans, who typically use natural or recycled materials. These items are made with respect for the environment and benefit the community in which they are made, often through access to education and health care. There are four international Fair Trade associations, responsible for determining whether companies are compliant with Fair Trade standards. Equal Exchange, Ten Thousand Villages, Global Girlfriend, and SERRV are Fair Trade companies whose merchandise we stock at the Blue Flamingo.Why buy Fair Trade?
